Budget 21/22 Aged Care Renovation or Rebuild?
Follow up analysis of Budget 2021/22.
The dust has settled since the release of Budget 2021/22 and we are now beginning to understand the implications of the announcements. Aged care was painted as a winner, with a $17.7 billion “investment” but as always, the devil is in the detail. This investment is merely a lick of paint and not what the Royal Commission recommended – a complete rebuild to create a New Aged Care Program.
Providers are not winners – there will be more regulation, reporting and oversight with minimal additional funding. However, and most importantly, the biggest losers are today and tomorrow’s elders who will not be beneficiaries of an entitlement system to receive care as and when they need it.
